And yet another dream dies

Just when I decided that we would "consider" having a second another possible bomb has been dropped on us.

First a little history. My baby sitter is a friend of ours that is a SAHM. When we were talking about moving out of state they were going to come with us. Well due to hurricane Wilma their trailer was damaged. Well the insurance company totalled it and they got the insurance check today. Her husband walks in the door and screams "we're outta here". So it looks like they are going ahead and leaving the state. Her husband is a mechanic and can get work anywhere. It's not that easy for us unfortunately. She doesn't want to leave and they are "discussing" it tonight.

I called a daycare center by my house and it would be 200 a week for them to watch lexi. If we had a second it would be 350 a week, and that is the norm. So right now it looks like a second isn't possible and in all honesty I am devastated. I really want lexi to have a brother or sister, but we just can't afford 1400 a month. thats 60% of my salary. Needless to say this is really depressing me. I am gonna shop around for daycare but its not looking pretty so far.

That sucks Jeanne. They're not gone yet though. They may change their minds and/or you may find an even better DC situation. Don't give up.

I hope that it is ok for me to post on your blog - I am new at this and was looking through blogs and stopped at yours because I saw the picture of your beautiful little girl and decided to read your posts.

To put your mind at ease as much as is possible over the web, I will tell you a little about me. I am a stay-at-home mom of 6 children - ages 7, 5, 4, 3, 18months, and 3 months.

I was reading your comments about wanting to have another child but not being able to afford the daycare. Have you ever considered staying home with your chid(ren)? It seems that you are conscientous about how much of your salary (60%)would be eaten up with 2 children in daycare. Have you also added up the cost of clothes for work, food while you are at work, etc? These are all costs that should be considered as well.

I used to work outside the home when I had my first child. I am glad that my husband and I made the decision for me to stay at home. It all depends on what kind of lifestyle you want to lead. If you want lots of extras than you are probably happy with both you and your spouse working, but if you are willing to cut out a lot of extras and cut corners on finances you can afford to stay at home and spend all your time with your precious daughter and baby when he/she comes along.

Just to give you an idea - my husband is in the computer field and he makes about $40,000 a year with overtime. We can make it on his salary with 6 children (3 in diapers). We cut a lot of corners and don't have a lot of extras but at least I can stay at home and raise my kids and school them (we are homeschooling). Its all in what you view as important.

Just some words of wisdom from someone who has been where you are..

God Bless.
