My family has waited so long.....

and it finally happened. Yesterday at about 3 p.m. my sister got the call. They had a donor to giver her a kidney and pancreas and she was a match. I left work at 4 and went to my mom's to pick up my step dad and went down to Jackson memorial.

It was a really long night. I got to the hospital at 8 p.m. and they were doing tissue tests to make sure that her tissue wouldn't react with the donor's. They had a really hard time getting an IV in as her veins are so shot from all the wear and tear. The test came back about 10:30 and we went over to pre-op. At midnight she was taken into surgery.

after 6 long exhausting hours and a night of no sleep the doc finally cam out at 6 a.m. the kidney and pancreas were working and she was outputting urine. She will have a breathing tube until tomorrow. She will be out of it for the most part till then. They have her on blood thinners so there is no clotting around the organs. It is dangerous but necessary from what the doc says. She will be on immune suppressing drugs the rest of her life and they are EXPENSIVE, like 1500 a month

The donor was a 31 year old male and my mom as silly as she is tells my sister "I know a guy who is really into you!" Yep, thats my mom for ya
My dad stayed around and saw her in icu and found out that her blood sugar was 100 so that is good.

My mom and I left after we found out how the surgery went. We got to her house around 7:30, I slept for like 3 hours then came home. I got home and lexi was napping so I napped for another hour, but am still wiped out and find my house wrecked

I did have a scary experience at the hospital. It was at Jackson memorial in downtown miami. Well there was a homeless crazy person in the lobby when we were leaving. He kept following us. I went to a security guard and asked him where the exit was (and making him aware of the psycho). the homeless dude asked me if I had a car and I replied "I am NOT taking you anywhere"! The security guard walked out with us to make sure the homeless dude didnt keep following us. My mom was very impressed with how I handled it I guess living in miami for so many years served its purpose!

I will keep everyone posted with Chris' progress. She is in ICU and stable. They are watching for rejection so we are all keeping out fingers crossed. Thank you all for the prayers.

I also want to urge everyone if you are not an organ donor, become one. You never know when it will affect you or when you might need one.
